Representation of the AKP Ideology within Child...

In today's world pronouncements of the death of television are very common. As people are tweeting, watching video online or updating their Facebook status and so on. Nevertheless, television has not gone anywhere and continues to play a crucial part in the media landscape in most societies. It continues to be a big part of children's learning, realising and discovering processes. But the crucial question is what it is teaching? Assuming television to be one of the biggest sources of teaching does not mean that every single thing that it conveys to people has a positive content. The messages that television is passing on may be either good or bad for children. I therefore strongly believe that analyzing the content of the cartoons' texts and seeing how much children notice the given messages from those texts is very significant for the future vision of children and for the country.

Mental health is a topic laden with misconceptions and stigma, and is of low priority compared to physical health based on reports by Rappler and the World Health Organization. A quick Twitter or Facebook search of the word 'retarded' or 'depressed' will show status updates with people using these terms lightly or dismissively, or even romanticizing mental illnesses. On the other hand, some people are becoming somewhat aware of the importance of mental health, as can be seen by a number of news articles and posts calling for an end to romanticizing and stigmatizing mental health. This book aims to understand the discourse on mental health issues based on 500 tweets from Metro Manila-based Twitter users who used key words related to mental health repeatedly in 2015. Fairclough's critical discourse analysis and the uses and gratifications theory were used to determine the discourse, the literacy level on the issue, as well as the uses and gratifications for tweeting about mental health.

Socialbots and Their Friends

Many users of the Internet are aware of bots: automated programs that work behind the scenes to come up with search suggestions, check the weather, filter emails, or clean up Wikipedia entries. More recently, a new software robot has been making its presence felt in social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter - the socialbot. However, unlike other bots, socialbots are built to appear human. While a weatherbot will tell you if it's sunny and a spambot will incessantly peddle Viagra, socialbots will ask you questions, have conversations, like your posts, retweet you, and become your friend. All the while, if they're well-programmed, you won't know that you're tweeting and friending with a robot.Who benefits from the use of software robots? Who loses? Does a bot deserve rights? Who pulls the strings of these bots? Who has the right to know what about them? What does it mean to be intelligent? What does it mean to be a friend? Socialbots and Their Friends: Digital Media and the Automation of Sociality is one of the first academic collections to critically consider the socialbot and tackle these pressing questions.

Death Algorithm and Other Digital Dilemmas

In The Death Algorithm and Other Digital Dilemmas, Roberto Simanowski wonders if we are on the brink of a society that views social, political, and ethical challenges as technological problems that can be fixed with the right algorithm, the best data, or the fastest computer. For example, the "death algorithm ¿ is programmed into a driverless car to decide, in an emergency, whether to plow into a group of pedestrians, a mother and child, or a brick wall. Can such life-and-death decisions no longer be left to the individual human? In these incisive essays, Simanowski asks us to consider what it means to be living in a time when the president of the United States declares the mainstream media to be an enemy of the people¿while Facebook transforms the people into the enemy of mainstream media. Simanowski describes smartphone zombies (or "smombies¿) who remove themselves from the physical world to the parallel universe of social media networks; calls on Adorno to help parse Trump's tweeting; considers transmedia cannibalism, as written text is transformed into a postliterate object; compares the economic and social effects of the sharing economy to a sixteen-wheeler running over a plastic bottle on the road; and explains why philosophy mat become the most important element in the automotive and technology industries.
